Busses, Taxi's, Subways & Skytrains

Taxi's:  Taxi's in Tianjin start off at 5RMB, and climb at a rate of 1.5RMB per/km.  Comparitively with say Shenzhen, where it starts at 12.5RMB and climbs at 2.2RMB, this is quite a cheap town to flag down a cab.  Compared to the bus, taxi's are by far the better choice in Tianjin.

Busses:  Busses are cheaper, and if you plan to live here for a while, it's a good idea to get someone to show you the route to work.  If you are just visiting though, a bus ride can be very confusing and you can't trust the people on the bus to give you useful information so use them with caution.  Also, bus routes will sometimes change overnight and the same bus you take everyday can start taking you in another direction without notice, take a cab, it's 5RMB.

Fare: 1 - 2 RMB

Subway: Tianjin was the second city in China to complete a subway system.  It was completed in 1984 and extended 7.4km.  It was shut down in October 2001 for reconstruction and re-opend in the summer of 2006 with 26.2 km of track. Lines 2 & 3 are currently under construction and are scheduled to open around Jan, 2008.
The subway is a quick and efficient means of getting around the city.  Faster and usually less stuffy than the bus, and cheaper than a taxi.
Fare: 2 - 5RMB

Skytrain: In March 2004 the Binhai line went into operation.  With a 45km track, it is the longest in operation in China.  The skytrain, like the subway, is an excellent means of quickly getting through the city.
Fare: 3 - 6RMB
